INTERNATIONAL ONION MEETING 2021

10th November, Albacete, Spain

On November 10th 2021, Spain and more specifically the region of Castilla-La Mancha, will host the third international meeting of the onion sector (IOM). This meeting is promoted by the Onion Producers Association of Castilla-La Mancha, PROCECAM.

After the success obtained in 2017 with the celebration of the II IOM in the city of Albacete, this third edition of the meeting has as its main objective an in-depth analysis of the sector, highlighting the importance of this bulb in all its aspects, both productive, nutritious, marketing and phytosanitary.
 
After the celebration of the two previous editions of the international meeting held in 2007 and 2017, Castilla-La Mancha, and especially the city of Albacete, once again becomes the center of the onion sector worldwide.
 
The meeting will feature in this edition a single day dedicated to this product:
 
-> November 10, in the Congress Palace of the city there will be the participation of several international experts that will address the market situation, the improvement in varieties that has been experienced in recent years, the phytosanitary problems of cultivation , as well as the future in terms of current customer demands and consumer prospects of supermarkets and distribution chains.
 
Castilla-La Mancha is the main producing region of Spain, and one of the most important in Europe, with almost 11,000 hectares cultivated in 2019 in its entirety and a production that, in 2019 exceeded 798 million kilos. Within this region, the province of Albacete stands out in a very important way, which in the 2019 campaign had 5,000 cultivated hectares and that obtained a production of more than 374 million kilos.
 
The Onion Producers Association of Castilla-La Mancha, PROCECAM, currently has more than 1,257 associated producers spread throughout the Spanish geography and as a whole, cultivated an area of ​​6,450 hectares in 2019, with a production in 2019 of more of 340 million kilos.
